Homemade lego cake from scratch
This one was a challenge. Having never baked a cake before and did not have time to order a cake because I am never that organised I in my infinate wisdom scoured pinterest and decided to go for a lego cake which looked nothing like this.
I made the fondant from scratch using marshmallows and water melted in the microwave then added the colour and icing sugar that was the easy part.
I made two large square cakes and made my own buttercream, cut one of the large cakes in two to make the bricks, covered all the cakes in the buttercream and then the fondant.
For the cakeboard I used a lego baseplate and pressed it into the fondant. For the little lego bricks i used a lego brick and presssed them into some this fondant and stuck them on using edible glue.
For the nodules on the bricks i used a small glass and cut into a thicker rolled piece of fondant.
the whole thing went down a storm with the kids and easily fed 18 of them.
